Demonstration in Los Angeles against “Secure Communities”

Demonstrators argued against the “Secure Communities” in downtown Los Angeles on Monday, August 15. This federal program allows law enforcement to share fingerprint information collected by local and state police to help locate and deport illegal immigrants. Though its purpose is to identify convicted felons, information has also been used to locate those who have had other contact with police. Many minority groups have called for its removal.
