There is an excellent article by three Arizona pastors calling on people to end the hate speech related to the undocumented. See the article in the Tuscon Citizen
Many of us had despaired when we saw the strongly anti-immigrant position of many of the Republican candidates. The majority of the candidates seem to be fighting to be the person who could present the most negative position toward the undocumented. We thank God that all of these candidates have been eliminated.
The three remaining candidates (Clinton, McCain, and Obama) have committed themselves to working toward an immigration reform that provides both justice for the undocumented and national security. The Red invites you to continue praying for the elections.
It will not be enough that the candidates talk about a just immigration reform. It will be crucial that they propose concrete plans that respond to the current situation, but that also provide a plan for temporary workers so that people can enter the country legally and they take away the “need” for undocumented migration. There will also be a need for mid and long range plans to strengthen the economies of Latin American countries so that there will no longer be as much pressure to migrate north.
