Glen Peterson invites us to reflect on the possibilities of a just and comprehensive immigration reform in Immigration Reform´s Post-Election Potential, a post on the Sojourners blog.
One of the problems with the debate about immigration reform is that most of the emphasis has been pragmatic. Many argue for a comprehensive reform because it is for the “good” of the country. Immigrants contribute, if there is a guest worker program they will be able to do the work others do not want to do, etc. The principal problem for Christians is that our principal motivation should not be pragmatic, but moral. We need to work toward reform because immigrants are divine creation and deserve fair treatment. God has called us to protect the foreigner. My prayer is that we do not lose sight that the principal reason for being for immigration reform is because God wants requires it of us. (I invite you to read Immigration Reform Must Regain a Moral Compass.)
Clamor por Los Angeles (ClamorxLA) and the Red de Pastores y Líderes Latinos del Sur de California invite you to an evening of intercesion for our new president Barack Obama and his administration, Tuesday, January 20, from 6-9PM. This intercessory service will be held at Iglesia de Restauración located on the corner of Adams and Crenshaw one block south of Interstate 10 in Los Angeles. The service will include worship and intercession. All are invited!
A growing number of people, organizations, and churches are calling on President elect Obama to work toward comprehensive and humane immigration reform as soon as possible. The feeling of many is that it will be much easier to pass a law at the beginning of the new adminstration, while the president has a high approval rating (see Immigration Demands Heat Up). We invite you to be praying for the new administration and to be ready to take concrete actions on behalf of immigration reform.
